GrabBike App Pioneers in Vietnam

The Malaysian-based company which brought us the largely growing taxi-booking GrabTaxi App is at it again. This time, it introduces the GrabBike App, a motorbike service which allows users to hail a xe om (motorbike taxi) through an iOS or Android Smartphone.

While hiring a traditional xe om poses certain inconveniences like long and tiring price negotiations and even dangers like being taken advantage of, especially among foreigners, GrabBike App promises to offer quicker and more importantly, safer transactions since the service will incorporate critical information like the driver’s personal data, his photo, and the license plate number of the motorbike. Xe om drivers are also obliged to submit full and accurate documents such as state ID, driver’s license and residency certificate before they can legally drive the motorbike.

GrabTaxi began in 2012 and although similar companies like Easy Taxi and Uber are currently on its heels, it proves to be an established entity in the particular market since it has already opened in six other Asian territories namely Malaysia, Singapore, Thailand, Vietnam, Philippines, and Indonesia. The GrabBike App will pilot its service in Vietnam, specifically in Ho Chi Minh City, before moving on to the other cities and countries.
