For the nature lovers and adventure seekers, Nha Trang Bay has the best of both worlds with its number of water sports than anyone will truly enjoy. Windsurfing, parasailing, jet skiing, flyboarding and kayaking are just some of the outdoor activities that guests can engage in and have a lifetime of memories to hold of the place.
Windsurfing is one popular water sport which is a combination of surfing and sailing. It consists of a board about 2-3 metres long with a volume of 60-250 litres and powered by wind on a sail. The rig is connected to the board by a free-rotating universal joint which is made up of a mast, a two-sided boom and sail. The sail is between 2.5-12 metre square depending on the wind conditions as well as the skill of the rider. It is a physically-challenging but fun activity which many find enjoyable and worthwhile.
Parasailing is another famous water activity which requires a person to be pulled by a boat while attached to a parachute-type of equipment called parasail wing. When the boat starts to drive off, the parasailer will start to ascend into the air, leaving an exhilarating feeling and truly unforgettable experience. It is also known as parascending or parakiting and may take up to two to three people parasailing at the same time. A ten-minute ride costs between VND500,000-VND600,000($23-$28).
Flyboarding is a new water sport that is fast gaining popularity because of the novelty and excitement it brings. A water jet pack is attached to a personal water craft (PWC) which supplies propulsion to drive the flyboard through air and water. The rider stands on a board connected to a long hose and to a watercraft. He or she wears a pair of boots connected to the board also which is pressurized by water. It comes with jet nozzles at the bottom which provide the thrust for the rider to fly up to 15 metres into the air and then dive about 2.5 metres into the water. It costs VND1.2 million ($60) for a 15-minute ride.
Kayaking is another famous water sport which involves the rider to sit with his/her legs in front, facing forward and using a double-bladed paddle. It is different from canoeing by its sitting position and number of blades. Although the traditional closed-deck kayak is still what is generally used, sit-on-tops and inflatable kayaks have also been recently the choice among the sport enthusiasts. A one-hour kayak ride is worth VND200,000-300,000 ($10-$12).
Water Skiing is a surface water sport in which a person is pulled by a boat or a cable ski installation over water. The rider skims through the surface of the water using a ski or slalom. He/she can use either one or two skis and must wear a flotation device in case he or she submerges into the water. Up to three people can water ski at the same time. It costs VND200,000 ($9) and there is no strict age requirement as to who can participate in the sport. But since it requires strong lower and upper body strength, muscular endurance and good balance, one has to be physically fit when deciding to engage in water skiing.
These awesome outdoor water sports plus the stunning natural beauty of Nha Trang, it is a must to visit the place and experience all these for yourself.
