With a naturally spectacular scenery, it’s not surprising that Phu Quoc is named the Pearl Island in the Southern province of Ken Giang. It is also Vietnam’s biggest island, that is why it has an immense potential for becoming an international eco-tourism and resort centre.
In 2014, about 600,000 tourists visited Phu Quoc. This was equivalent to an 84.28 percent increase in tourism earnings or 2.2 trillion VND (104.8 million USD). This year, more than 850,000 visitors are expected to enter the island. There has been a yearly increase of 40 percent tourists visiting Phu Quoc Island.
But despite the large number of visitors coming into the island, Phu Quoc still has a long way to go in terms of quality of its services. And when it comes to tourism, quality is essential in maintaining interest among guests not only in visiting once but many times over.

To solve this major problem, the government has come up with several solutions. Vocational trainings are being conducted in order to improve the island’s human resources department. In a fast growing tourism area, highly skilled workers are needed in order to cater to all the needs and even wants of its clients.
Environmental conservation is also taken into consideration by building concentrated waste treatment and collection plants. Moreover, an entertainment complex has been recently approved for the complete satisfaction of visitors into the island. This includes a casino which guests will surely enjoy and in fact entice more people to visit Phu Quoc.
Additional hotels and resort centres are also in the process of construction to accommodate the increasing number of tourists entering Phu Quoc Island. There are currently over 4,000 hotel rooms which can house around 7,000-8,000 guests, but this will no longer be enough once more and more tourists visit the place.
The government hopes that these plans will upgrade the service of Phu Quoc Island to international quality, and finally make it a global tourist destination.
