As stipulated in Decision No. 568/ QD-CHHVN by the Director of the Ministry of Transport’s Vietnam Maritime Administration (VMA) on November 15 of this year, a representative office of the Nha Trang Maritime Port Authority will be established in Truong Sa Island District, Central Khanh Hoa Province.
According to VMA Director Nguyen Nhat, the construction of such office in the said location will be beneficial in many ways: It will help ensure the management of shipping operations and the freedom of navigation in line with Vietnam’s law and the 1982 United Nations Convention on the Law of the Sea; It will manifest Vietnam’s presence in and management of the sea and islands under its sovereign control, aiding in the protection of the country’s sovereignty, sovereign rights and jurisdiction.
Creating a representative office in the said district will also give the concerned authorities the opportunity to work with related agencies on search and rescue missions at sea, including the prevention of environmental pollution.
In line with the plan, the VMA also identified the territorial waters of Truong Sa based in Truong Sa (Spratly) archipelago. The official data is recorded in the ministerial Circular No. 21/ 2014/ TT-BGTVT.
