Ho Chi Minh City Inaugurates First River Bus Route

In an effort to remedy its heavy road traffic, Ho Chi Minh City inaugurated its pioneer river bus route on November 25, 2017.

The route is 10.8 kilometres long and connects Bach Dang Wharf in District 1 to Linh Dong Wharf in Thu Duc District. There are 12 stations along the route, the two locations mentioned being the main and five already completed. Three vehicles have been employed to run on the route, with two more to begin within the first six months of 2018. The ambitious project is invested in by Thuong Nhat Company which began its operation in August of 2017.

A one-way ticket costs 15,000 VND ($0.66 USD). Senior citizens aged 70 years old and above and children below one metre in height are exempted from paying. The service is free in the first ten days of its operation, to the delight of its passengers.

A second river bus route is also in the works, located in the Southern City of Thuong Nhat and will link Bach Dang Wharf to Lo Gom in District 6. It will stretch up to 10.3 kilometres long.
